Fifty Year Flashback: Junior Prom continues to be a night to remember
On April 29th, 1988, the junior class danced the night away at the Westover Country Club and created memories at their Junior Prom.
The ballroom was lavishly decorated and even had a grand balloon covered entrance. Music was provided by the Silver Sound Disc Jockeys, and the ballroom was lit up by the smiles on the faces of the North Penn students.
Similar to 1988, Junior Prom is still an important night at North Penn High School.
“[Junior Prom] is important because it is basically the only opportunity for the junior class to do something that is exclusive to them. It is also a great chance for our class cabinet to highlight their skills at planning an event. They have all worked very hard this year to plan a fantastic junior prom that no one will ever forget,” said Class Advisor Mr. Christopher Frey.
The North Penn Junior Prom was and continues to be a night that students dress to impress, however, the prom is improved each year. Year after year, the class cabinet becomes stronger and tries to create greater ideas than the last. A new theme is selected each year, which makes each class’s prom unique and special.
“I feel like last year’s junior class really started a tradition of Wyoming people with decorations. I still hear people talk about how surprised they were to come into the school and see classic cars parked in the concourse. One of our goals this year is to have a few surprises for people and really try to blow people away with how the school is transformed,” said Frey “We have had a lot of fun with the Star Wars part of our theme. They are going to be some fantastic picture opportunities as you enter the school and move down the concourse to the auditorium but we are also going to really give the students a red carpet feel as they move down to the dance.”
This year, the Junior Prom will have theme of Star Wars. Students are guaranteed to have a starry night that will take them out of this world.
“When we came up with our theme this year we looked at many different ideas and many of them felt to be honest with you kind of old and tired. We really wanted to do something different this year, something that people would remember. If the average student asked their parents what the theme of their junior prom was I don’t think many would remember,” said Frey.
Like always, the junior class cabinet has always made the night successful. The night is sure to create memories that will stick with North Penn Students for the rest of their lives.
“I feel confident that if the junior class cabinet is able to pull off all the things they want to then this junior prom will be something that no one will ever forget.”
