Freewheelin’ performs in the NPHS gymnasium in November 1979

Imagine a rock band coming to North Penn and having a concert during the school day.

Well that is what happened on November 21, 1979, and North Penn High School ushered in the Thanksgiving Break with a rockin’ good time. The rock n roll band FREEWHEELIN’ showed up at North Penn High School with intentions to “rock the boat,” rather rock the gymnasium, and North Penn students present that day singing or humming their melodious tunes.

The in-school concert was an apparent success, because later that night the band held a dance/concert that saw an impressive crowd for the North Penn student body, as well as, the North Penn community. The concert was even more beneficial to FREEWHEELIN’ since they attracted the interests of record companies, and by fall released their first album titled FREEWHEELIN’. When asked about the

possibility of a similar event occurring at North Penn in the future, Activities Director Kyle Berger said, “It would be a nice thing to have happen here. It is something that we can look into.”
