Opinion: Trump’s 100 Days of Disorder

President Donald J. Trump has been the source of controversy ever since his first term back in 2017, and with his second 100 day review coming up, it appears as if the report will reflect that. With one of the lowest approval ratings of any president in decades, it’s looking as if he will score lower than both his predecessor, Joe Biden, and Trump’s own first term. For anyone who has been paying attention to the news, this approval rating should not come as a surprise, with many of his recent actions being incredibly unpopular in the eyes of many U.S. citizens.

After less than two months in office, Trump went against many of the promises he made during his presidential campaign, including harming the economy instead of boosting it. This economic turmoil came from his sudden trade war with China, Canada, Mexico, and several other nations who play key roles in supporting the U.S.’s economy. Over the last few weeks, many economists have affirmed that Trump’s trade war will harm not just the world economy, but also vital relationships with allied countries.

Since the tariffs implemented in early March, tourism from Canada to the U.S. has decreased a staggering amount as Canadians try to boycott the U.S. in any way they can. The same holds true for other regions that tend to bring tourists, like Mexico and Western Europe. With the tourism industry generating billions of dollars every year, losing even a small fraction of it could result in millions of dollars lost in federal funding.

One of Trump’s biggest talking points, even since his first term, has been cracking down on illegal immigration into the nation. He has tried to achieve this goal by increasing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence in areas with migrant populations, aiming to deport them back to their home countries. However, in the midst of these deportations, countless U.S. citizens and/or legal immigrants have been forcibly removed from U.S. soil. One of the most notable examples of these false deportations is Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was sent to the El Salvador mega prison and, despite orders from the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), has yet to be brought back. This has sparked outrage across the country, with many others fearing they may face similar treatment without proper due process.

Only a few decades ago, many found politics boring and political affiliations meant little to a person’s character. Now, in 2025, it feels as if nobody can go anywhere without coming face-to-face with some form of political controversy. The job of the President of the United States is to unite and represent all citizens, and not just that of the dominant political party. In his first 100 days alone, Trump has managed to do the opposite, instead further dividing the nation and leaving few with hope that America will someday return to what it once was. Not only that, but he has also managed to make many people fear for their safety every time they leave the house, a feeling nobody should have to experience in an allegedly secure and safe country. Some day these events will all be part of a history textbook, but right now, in the present day, President Donald Trump needs to take a vastly different approach to the presidency, or else the only thing that will be left when he leaves office will be a radically divided nation that is a shell of its former united self.
