NPHS Chamber Singers perform next to Broadway Stars
TOWAMENCIN- North Penn hosted The Unreachable Stars tour for another Lansdale Community Concert this past Saturday. The concert also featured the NPHS Chamber Singers, who got the chance to sing onstage with the band. Instead of a choir, they were backup singers for the night.
The Unreachable Stars is a touring Broadway band starring Jeremy Stolle, who is currently in Broadway’s Phantom of The Opera. He is joined by Heather Lundstedt O’Neill and Joseph Paul Rykert singing side by side, along with the rest of the band. O’Neill has performed professionally all over the world and is currently on another tour with ‘The Bombshells’. Rykert has traveled worldwide as well with APU’s choirs as a lead tenor soloist. They sing and play top Broadway music, while also including pop and contemporary style songs.
Megan Aquias, a senior in Chamber Singers, described her experience performing and watching from the wings.
“It was a lot of fun getting to rehearse and perform with them, and I learned a lot from them about performing. I loved watching them sing their set, and their energy is just so great.”
The Chamber Singers sang in the Act I finale, This is Me from The Greatest Showman. They were also added to the end of the show, helping the Stars sing The Phantom of The Opera, Stolle’s signature song in the musical.
The Chamber Singers’ performances are never quite like this. Typically, they are not singing with Broadway actors, but also the music sung in the concert was more contemporary/rock pop, rather than their normal choral music.
Sophomore, Olivia Greco, spoke about her first performance in the choir, being much different than the group’s usual.
“It was a life changing experience, getting to sing with people who have my dream job. I don’t think I will ever do anything like it again! I’m so glad I’m apart of this group!”
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the concert and did not hesitate to buy a copy of The Unreachable Stars album in the lobby before leaving. The Chamber Singers definitely enjoyed the night as well, and are excited to continue performing throughout the year.
