Out of the 1.6 million students who took the PSAT qualifying exam in October 2016, approximately 34,000 are named commended scholars and 16,000 are named semi-finalists in the country. Commended students placed among the top five percentile and selected semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors in the country.

These academically talented high school seniors will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for more than 7,500 available National Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million. These students were selected based on the ability to show exceptional academic talent and potential for success in rigorous college studies

The NPHS National Merit Scholarship Award recipients will be honored at a breakfast on October 12.

For more information about these students or the National Merit Scholarship Competition, please contact NPHS Senior Class Assistant Principals Sara Rattigan at [email protected] or Mary Scott at [email protected].
