Curtain Call! NPHS theatre to perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
TOWAMENCIN- Every year, North Penn High School Theatre puts endless hours of hard work into their intricate productions, and their spring musical is usually the most popular. Picking a musical can be extremely difficult, because there are so many factors that need to be considered like likability, humor, lighting, set design, songs, dance numbers, and so many other things. Theatre Director, Mrs. Andrea Roney delivered to her students when she picked this year’s gem of a show: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The plot follows the story from the Bible about Joseph and his jealous brothers. Jacob, father of Joseph, bestows a beautiful technicolor coat among his favorite son which drives the brothers mad with jealousy. Envious of Joseph, the brothers sell him into slavery in Egypt and tell the father that Joseph was killed by a herd of goats. After the father has mourned Joseph’s absence, the family soon forgets about him and the story follows the new hardships Joseph faces in Egypt.
“It’s a morality tale; it’s a tale of jealousy. It’s a tale of greed. It’s a tale of growing up: a young man’s journey through life,” stated Roney, discussing the key lessons the show entails.
This musical has something for everybody to see; there’s a little bit of religion, old throwback characters, exciting songs, funny lines, and much more. Noah Golden, NPHS senior, has been working long and hard with prior North Penn shows, and is finally able to showcase how far his talents with lighting and sound go. Technicolor is in the title of the show, so audiences can look forward to the stage flooding with all variations of color. Aside from the lighting, Joseph’s coat itself is filled with tons of different colors, stitched by the hardworking costume crew.
“We started making Joseph’s coat in the middle of February, and we just finished it today,” Angela Hoerner explained while finishing some last minute touches on other costumes.
The coat is made from small scraps of costumes from previous shows, so it has little memories from previous North Penn theatre productions.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an old religious tale that doesn’t strictly follow everything in the Bible, but spins it into an exciting, thrilling, wondrous show for everyone to see. Everybody can learn some things from Joseph and his journey through life. The musical will be performed on Thursday 4/27, Friday 4/28, and Saturday 4/29 all starting at 7 P.M., and there is a special matinee Sunday 4/30 afternoon at 2 P.M.
