NPHS hosting voter registration drive this week
October 5, 2016
TOWAMENCIN – This upcoming election, the presidential office is not the only item on the ballot. Seats for the Senate and House of Representatives are also up for grabs. Interested in voicing your opinion in regards to who should get into office? Students who are US citizens and will be 18 years old by November 8th, can register to vote during any lunch period Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week in the senior cafeteria at North Penn High School’s voter drive.
Registering to vote is simple and can quickly be completed online in minutes! Students must have their name, date of birth, address, and an acceptable form of identification (driver’s license number, state identification number, or the last four digits of social security number) handy. Once that information is filled out, pick a party. That’s it!
Registrants do not need to know who they will be voting for in order to register. There is still plenty of time to research candidates, but all students should keep in mind that failure to register in time means not being able to vote in this election.
Also keep in mind that every vote, although seemingly insignificant, actually matters.
“Your ultimate responsibility as a citizen is to vote” said Brian Haley, a government teacher here at North Penn High School who will be running the voter drive this year. “It’s important to do that because if you don’t vote the folks that do vote are way left or way right and then… our congress and our government officials are made up of people who are far left or far right and are not representative of mainstream America, which is a little bit left or a little bit right of center. We’re more moderate on our views and our politicians are more extreme in their views because people don’t vote.”
Don’t have lunch or missed out? No worries! The registration form can be completed online anytime before October 11th. Just click https://www.pavoterservices.state.pa.us/Pages/VoterRegistrationApplication.aspx and you will be directed to the form.
