NP football player Ben Dogunniuck reads to students at General Nash as part of the annual Reading Super Bowl.

TOWAMENCIN- For many young fans who flock to Crawford Stadium on Friday nights, the student athletes on the field are larger than life, and dreams of wearing a sword on their helmet run through the heads of many youngsters.

While they are on the field, the athletes represent larger than life role models for the younger kids. However when they are able to meet the young children face to face, the athletes are able to prove to the kids that they are just like them, one being elementary age themselves.

On Wednesday members of the North Penn Knights football team traveled to the 13 elementary schools ion the NPSD to participate in the annual Reading Super Bowl. The event involves having the high school athletes visit the elementary schools and read to the students, and answer questions of varying topics.

“It’s a great program they have set up here,” said Gerald Moore, a third grade teacher at Nash Elementary. “I think sports are a great vehicle to achieve academic success and (the athletes) serve as positive role models for the younger students.”

The players enjoyed the visit and understand the large role that they can play in many young kids lives.

“It’s cool that you can see the impact you have on these kids,” said NP senior Joe Patterson. “I just want to inspire some kids to grow up to be like me.”

“I liked when (Senior Spencer Jones) read to us,” said General Nash second grade student Tim Snyder. “I really liked his book. I thought it was really funny.”

Teachers touted the event as the highlight of the week for the students and the event was a success, with both football players and elementary students having tons of fun.
