FBLA and adviser Linda Westerlund enjoying success in 2015-2016
TOWAMENCIN -North Penn’s FBLA and their adviser have been getting down to some serious business in the 2015-2016 school year.
Several members from the North Penn chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America traveled to Penn State to participate in the Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Workshop. There were approximately 1600 FBLA members from across the State in attendance at the workshop.Students were able to select from a variety of Business sessions to attend and to participate in.
North Penn also participated in the annual Dodgeball Tournament held as part of the state workshop. North Penn continued their winning streak in this event by making it to the final championship match. and ended up placing second in the tournament.
While on the campus of Penn State, FBLA students very lucky to have a former North Penn student who is now attending Penn State take them on a private tour of the campus where they saw a lot of the campus that they wouldn’t have ordinarily had access to. And what is a trip to Happy Valley without some “Peachy Paterno”. So of course, they ended the tour with a stop at The Creamery for ice cream.
North Penn’s FBLA continues to not only enjoy success but also continues to expand its ventures. Among the recent additions to FBLA’s scope of work has been the Knights Knutrition snack stand in the NPHS sports lobby. Students can visit Knights Knutrition daily after school and before practice for some much needed after school nourishment. The snack stand also included Chick-Fil-A Thursdays in addition to their daily menu of snacks and smoothies.
With the continued expansion of FBLA, the North Penn School Board, at its action meeting on Thursday evening, approved a reclassification of FBLA from a Level 2 extracurricular offering, to a Level 3, reflecting the scope and reach of the club and the amount of responsibility associated with it.
While the entire FBLA has continued to enjoy successes and valuable experiences in this 2015-2016 school year, their adviser, Mrs. Linda Westerlund has garnered some prestigious recognition of her own. Through her work as both a teacher in the Business Dept. at North Penn and through her dedication to FBLA, Westerlund was nominated for and received the Superintendent’s Honor Roll Award in December.
Westerlund was presented with the honor during a staff luncheon on December 23rd at North Penn High School. Each year district employees have the opportunity to nominate a c0-worker whom they believe to be worthy of the award, and from those nominations, the most deserving are presented by superintended Dr. Curt Dietrich, with the Honor Roll Award.
