Trump Calls for a ban on Muslim immigrants
Monday, December 7, Donald trump called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” In response to the rise of terrorist attacks on the United States, Trump believes that no Muslims should be able to enter the country “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.” He also suggests that legal Muslim-American citizens be watched carefully. To extend, he stated that he wanted “surveillance of certain mosques.”
Politicians, celebrities, and members of the Muslim community have condemned Trump’s statements through various social media sites.

President Obama Addresses Global Terrorism
Sunday President Barack Obama addressed the Global issue of Terrorism. In an attempt to ease the fear caused by the terrorist attack by Muslim extremist in San Bernardino, California, Obama states that “The threat from terrorism is real, but we will overcome it. We will destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us.” He then addressed the steps that Congress will take to limit the acts of terrorism. The national security will be improved. “What we can do and must do is make it harder for them to kill.” Obama called on Congress to prevent any individual on a terrorist “no fly list” from buying weapons. He also asked lawmakers to finalize an authorization for U.S. armed forces to wage war on the extremist group.

Kanye and Kim Kardashian West Welcome New Baby Boy
Kanye and Kim Kardashian West welcomed a new baby boy, December 5, 2015. The announcement was shared on Kim’s social media sites with caption “SAINT WEST.” With the name Saint West, he really did come marching into the world. The Wests are not known for simple names, as they named their first child and daughter, North West. The baby boy weighing 8 pounds and 1 ounce came a few weeks before expected due date on Christmas day. Though Kim faced fertility challenges the baby is healthy and happily enjoying the welcoming of his new family.

8 Nights of Hanukkah Began

Sunday evening the eight nights of lights began. The importance of ties between the United States and Israel is expressed as President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama celebrate the holiday with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin at the White House. The holiday is celebrated to commemorate the rededication of the second Jewish temple in Jerusalem. Each of the candles lit over the eight days represents a night that the little bit of oil lasted. The eight nights began the evening of December 6 and will end the evening of December 14.

BuzzFeed’s Mental Health Week
BuzzFeed is running a Mental Health week to spread awareness and relieve the shame that comes with mental health disorders. Individuals are given the chance to share their experiences managing their mental health with others. Temple Condemns Cosby
Members of the Temple faculty call for Neil Theobald, President of the university, and the university trustees to remove Bill Cosby’s honorary degree and board of trustees Chairman Patrick O’Connor for representing Cosby. Cosby has already resigned from the board of trustees last year. The motion condemns Bill Cosby due to nearly 60 women accusing him of sexual assault. Last Friday, a meeting consisting of less than 100 faculty members hosted a voice vote to determine if they should revoke his honorary degree. The decision has not yet been determined.
