  1. Student’s violent arrest caught on video; officer under investigationOn Monday, a video went viral on social media of a school resource officer physically abusing a female student. This was taken place at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina. This student quickly pulled out her phone but was unfortunately caught by her teacher. It all turned sour when the teacher asked for her phone but she would not allow him to take it. The teacher then called administration and when administration failed, Officer Fields showed up. Fields asked the girl to get out of her desk and when she complied, yet again, he physically pushed her and her desk over and then pulled her out of the desk and dragged her to the front of the room where he handcuffed her. The whole incident was caught on camera by another student in the classroom.

    2. Abby Wambach announces her retirement from soccer

    On Tuesday, USA Women’s Soccer Team player, Abby Wambach, announced her retirement. As the team visited President Obama to celebrate their World Cup victory, Wambach was asked what her future looks like. Her answered was very non-committal and a couple hours later she then released that she will not be coming back to the team. Wambach has played for the national team for 14 years and has won two Olympic Gold medals, as well as winning the Women’s World Cup. She will officially retire at the end of the year once all of the World Cup victory matches are finished. Wambach’s final game with be in New Orleans against China on December 16.

    3. Runaway military blimp back on the ground

    On Wednesday afternoon there was an alert going around Pennsylvania as a military blimp floated from Maryland to Pennsylvania. As the blimp went on its journey through Central Pennsylvania, it created outages from its long tether hitting power lines. After travelling many miles at 16,000 feet up, the blimp landed in Columbia County in Pennsylvania. National Guard helicopters followed the blimp’s route to be able to find the crash site for when it came down to protect the technology in it, but the blimp deflated before landing. Officials don’t know the cause of the blimp being untied, but they think the weather could have caused a factor in it.

    4. World Series Game One: Mets vs. Royals

    Game 1 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets also took place this week. The game took 14 innings, but The Royals found a 5-4 victory at their home-field. During game 2 of the World Series, The Royals took home another win against The Mets with a 7-1 win. Johnny Cueto shocked the fans and came out with a two-hitter. Game 3 is set to be played Friday night.

    5. House elects Paul Ryan as the next speaker

    On Thursday morning, Republican Paul Ryan, a nine-term congressman, was elected as the next speaker of the House. Ryan entered the race last Thursday after receiving support from two GOP caucuses and most of the conservative Freedom Caucus. He received 236 votes after only needing 218 votes to win the election.
