TOWAMENCIN – North Penn High School Ceramics 2 students are about to put their skills in ceramics work to the test.

Students in Joanne Carrick’s course at North Penn High School are donating clay bowls to Arcadia University’s Empty Bowl Dinner. Anyone in the community can attend the dinner and The proceeds from this dinner are donated to Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network and The Hunger Project, agencies that are continuously working to address hunger and homelessness.

“I just think it’s great for them to have that experience of giving back, and something they make actually goes to a good cause,” Carrick explained.
For Carrick, it is her 6th year being involved with this project, and before her two previous teachers were involved for 9 years.

Those attending the event choose a handcrafted ceramic bowl when they arrive to be used as their soup bowl for the evening. The bowl is filled with delicious soups donated by local businesses, restaurants, and individuals from the community. When the dinner is over, each person keeps the bowl he or she ate from. The bowl serves as a reminder to the one who ate from it that somewhere in the world, someone is without a meal or shelter.

This is Arcadia University’s 22nd year hosting this event and it is held in the Grey Towers Castle on Monday, November 16, 2015 4:30-8:00 p.m. For more info visit their website at Empty Bowl Dinner .
