The Horsham Vet, along with WAGS rescue, recently celebrated its 30th year of helping animals find their forever homes

On Sunday, October 18, 2015, the Horsham Veterinary Hospital (HVH) celebrated its 30th anniversary. To celebrate the completion of their third decade serving the greater Horsham and North Penn communities, the hospital opened its doors to the community and hosted a community appreciation celebration. The hospital has been known for its hospitality and care for pets, so it was no surprise when hundreds of fur-loving locals came out to help celebrate the special day.

The day consisted of events for all ages. When you walked into the parking lot of HVH you were welcomed by hundreds of excited dogs and potential adoptees. A quick turn of the corner and you’d see what one would think of as an odd pet, a pig. The surprises didn’t stop there, however. Inside the main building were intriguing birds and ferrets. Children and adults were given the opportunity to take an interactive tour through the hospital.

“If anybody wanted to walk through the hospital they actually could walk through all of our exam rooms. We have seven exam rooms and we have all different things going on. In one room we have a Saint Bernard and kids can listen to the heartbeat and check out how many times per minute a large dog’s heart beats. We also have a display in our treatment area… you can go into our surgery area…we do demonstrations so you can go back into that area,” said Jean Janzer, the organizer of the open house.

While HVH is known for being trustworthy and caring, it is also known for supporting animal rescue programs such as WAGS rescue fund. Every other Sunday, HVH opens up its doors so that hundreds of pets have the opportunity to find their “furever” home.

“We bring mostly southern dogs up from high kill areas like North Carolina and Georgia to get them adopted in the Northeast where there’s actually a shortage of puppies and adoptable dogs. We fully vet them… our logo is ‘completing families every day’ and that’s what we feel like we’re doing. Everybody wants to finish their family off so Horsham has been great. I mean the events are huge!”

She then added the successes of the WAGS program.

“So we do about fifteen hundred adoptions a year. It’s the number that shocks people. Over a hundred adoptions a month and about fifteen hundred a year.”
