SOUDERTON – While the winter sports season at North Penn is well underway, and the winter concert season has come and gone, the January thaw is now really heating things up for the Academic Decathalon team. The NPHS Academic Decathlon team put together an impressive performance at this weekend’s regional scrimmage at Souderton High School, placing first in the region snd winning eight of the nine divisional high scorer positions. In addition, North Penn took home 19 of 24 gold medals, 15 of 20 silver medals and 11 of 24 bronze medals.
North Penn sophomore Jerry Zhao, junior Sam Curlee and sophomore Serena Jiang, placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively among all 51 participants from the region.
The team will be competing in less than three weeks at the regional final in hopes of qualifying for the state finals in March.
The Academic Decathalon team is under the guidance of advisor Mrs. Kathryn Daughton and includes Eddie Bogert, Michael Cha, Sam Curlee, Damian Dhanaraj, Kevin Fan, Arijeet Ghude, Elliott Goldberg, Sara Huzar, Maisha Islam, Serena Jiang, Nate Lamb, Scott Landes, Colin Lynch, Patrick Nicodemus, Kristian Robinson, Kokila Shankar, Jeanne Shi, Matt Zarenkiewicz, Jerry Zhao.
