TOWAMENCIN- Anxious students waited impatiently at the homecoming game for the announcing of this year’s king and queen. The cheers became louder and stronger as the homecoming court began to enter the stadium. As the candidates and their escorts walked through the path of flags formed by the color guard, it quickly became apparent how stunning and remarkable they looked.
However, only two would be chosen. Jenny Apple and Shamar Bowman are the 2nd runner-ups this year with Sydnee Jacques and Brad Rosenberger taking the place of 1st runner-ups. With a flair for the dramatic this year’s homecoming king and queen were announced as Kyle Mayfield and Katie Marino. As they were crowned by last year’s homecoming king and queen, their smiles of excitement took over.
“It feels amazing! I was so surprised whenever my name got called but it honestly was the best feeling ever. I was so overwhelmed with positive emotions. It was crazy. It is the biggest honor I can imagine and I am so, so, so thankful,” said Marino.
This will be a moment both of them will never forget.
“It feels great to be homecoming king; it would have been better if we won the game but it still felt pretty good and relieving,” added Mayfield on a night that saw him run the gamut of emotions – taking a 23-7 halftime lead, being crowned king, and then being forced to watch the final seconds of a home loss tick away while he waited injured on the sidelines.
Both Marino and Mayfield are very grateful for everyone who voted for them.
“Thank you to all the supporters, and I love my family lots, and thank God for blessing me for this opportunity, “said Mayfield.
Like Mayfield, marino also stated, “I would like to say thank you! Every single person on that court deserved to win so I am still shocked. But seriously I just want to say thank you to anyone who voted for me, it’s a huge honor and I am more than grateful for everyone in North Penn! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
