PHILADELPHIA- Congratulations to the North Penn Science Technology and Research Students (STARS) Ishaan Nerurkar, Stephen Choi and Robert Ni who represented the North Penn School District in the Delaware Valley Science Exam Competition. Ni received Honorable Mention in the Math category. Nerurkar received a finalist scholarship award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Choi received a finalist scholarship award from Dow Chemical Company.
The Delaware Valley Science Council is made up of volunteers in various science professions and fields representing academia and research facilities. This year, over 400 high schools in the tri-state area were invited to send four seniors as contestants. These students chose two exams from the four areas of math, physics, chemistry and biology. The exams were given at Temple University in October. High score winners were then invited to an interview phase at University of the Sciences in January. The thirty finalists were recognized at an awards dinner in March.
The North Penn STARS club is a group of high school students who develop, research and run experiments on topics in various science disciplines. Students work independently of the student curriculum. Research projects are presented at local, regional and international competitions.
