TOWAMENCIN: The walls of North Penn High School’s gymnasium could barely contain the energy, excitement, and school spirit fostered by this year’s indoor Pep Rally, held during the honorary ninth period on Friday, October 21.
Traditionally, Friday night’s Homecoming Game gets kicked off Friday afternoon with a school wide Pep Rally in Crawford Stadium. However, this year’s indoor and seniors only Pep Rally switched things up with a different atmosphere.
As sophomores and juniors watched the events of the Pep Rally on North Penn Television in their ninth period classrooms, seniors sat on either the “white” or “blue” side of the gymnasium’s bleachers dawned in their respective colors and ready to cheer on their classmates.
Opening with a performance by North Penn’s Cheerleaders, the Pep Rally started strong, and continued the entertainment with the introduction of the homecoming court and their “secret hobbies.” To the disappointment of the spectators, six faculty members — including one of the Senior Class Advisors, Ms. Assous – beat five senior football players in a historic tug of war battle. Spirits lifted once again as the members of the homecoming court performed a dance routine specially crafted by members of North Penn’s Dance team, who would follow up this act with a performance of their own.
“I thought the dance team’s performance was the best it has been this year… I am so proud of everyone on the team because they worked so hard to make the dance great! This is the third year the dance team performed at the Pep Rally and I’m glad that I was able to perform. I looked forward to performing at the Pep Rally every year and dancing at the Pep Rally made my senior year better!” said Catie Raimo, dance team member.
Audience members agreed that the Pep Rally was a highlight of senior year so far, especially if they were lucky enough to receive one of the shirts or footballs thrown into the bleachers by SGA and Class Cabinet members. Unbeknownst to those who caught them, some of these footballs were labeled with numbers, indicating that this person would participate in a relay game with a partner, with the chance of winning even more prizes.
Ending with a final performance by the cheerleaders and a request that everyone attend the Homecoming Game by Senior Captain of the football team, TJ Smink, the Pep Rally served its function as students left the gymnasium in a buzz of excitement and with throats slightly sore from all the cheering.

I did not like the way in which the pep rally was done this year. A pep rally is not just something for the seniors to enjoy; it should be a school wide thing. Its not just seniors that go out every friday night to the freezing cold games. It’s a school wide effort along with many alumni and returning players as well. I think pep rallys should return to crawford and allow all students to come together as a untied front and pump up the players for the big game.
