New sport could be perfect mix of brains and brawn
April 1, 2015
The team of Mike Kern, Luke Homan, Nick Dicerbo, Corey Smith, and Grant Silhanek
have made North Penn proud this year. They have all qualified for the 2015 New Sport Olympics after
all the years of blood, sweat, and tears.
“The butterflies of winning an opportunity like this, they never get old,” Kern said. “That’s why we
play this game.”
The game he was referring to was of course the international phenomena, chess boxing. A true
sport that only the most adept players in the world can play. The North Penn chess boxing team
began this school year when the all powerful vindicator Luke Homan, woke up and decided he wanted to revolutionize the sport chess boxing. This led the North Penn chess boxing team to win after win and eventually qualifying for the 2015 Olympic games in Dumpwater, FL.
“Most people dream of a mansion and a model wife, but I’ve dreamt of beating people up while
I own them at chess my entire life, and thanks to our head honcho, the twig (Luke Homan) I can now
live my dream.” Dicerbo said as he started tearing up.
For most of these players, playing at the Ethiopian Olympics is a chance at immortality. If they
bring back the gold, their names will forever be engraved next to the likes of many Olympic greats.
Their strategy is plain and simple for Corey Smith, “ I’m just going to hit anything that moves
and I know that I am going to win at chess, I mean I play dungeons and dragons in my spare time so chess should be a piece of cake” Corey said.
The chess boxers have faith that the captain will lead them to victory against countries like
Bratislava and Djibouti.
“We are going into this expecting to bring back some gold to North Penn and actually make
North Penn athletics look credible for the first time in the century.” Grant said.
“This April we make history; I will topple everything in my path. These other chess boxers are playing little league and I’m playing for the majors and I’m aiming for the fence,” Luke Homan said.
Their first match is on April 26 at the Dumpwater Coliseum Municapal Memorial Stadium against the
Russian Platypi. Make sure you at the least applaud these legends when you see them in the
hallway.
