2010 wasn’t such a bad year, well at least not for the graduating class. The inclement snowy weather and teachers strike wasted many school days that the underclassmen were forced to make up. It is easy to be bitter about sitting, or rather wallowing in classes at the end of June while everyone else was relaxing on summer break.
Yet now I am a senior and have been anticipating a huge blizzard since September. My prayers were answered early in October… yet nothing has happened since and it is closer to spring. It seldom snows on a weekday, and the amount of snow this year is pathetic compared to years past. Now hoping for a measly two hour delay is a little too much to ask for.
As a senior I should be glad and using my last precious days at North Penn to reflect on all of the memories, but I can’t help feeling anger seeping in. We need a snow day! I cannot even remember a year without school being canceled.
Snow days seem to always have been a part of school, almost as guaranteed as spring break. There is nothing comparable to the joyous feeling when watching the news and seeing “North Penn School District: Closed” blaring on the bright TV screen in the morning. It is a welcome sight for sleepy eyes, like three Christmases in one day.
If there are no snow days there is no point to living and dealing with the cold. The snow is a beacon of hope from heaven to make it through the cold, dreary winter days. Therefore, it better snow soon or I’m going on strike. Okay, probably not… but my final year at North Penn will forever be incomplete.
