From North Penn High School to West Chester University, Jared Melone, NPHS graduate from the class of 2015, continues his baseball career, expressing his passion for the sport.
Alumni spotlight: Melone continues baseball career at West Chester
Jared Melone, graduate of NPHS class of 2015, is definitely missed out on the field as a star third baseman. Melone was called up to varsity during his sophomore year and played on the team for the rest of his time at NPHS. He contributed to the team’s state titles in both sophomore and senior year.
He went on from NPHS to play at LaSalle, as a starting third baseman his freshman year of college. Melone ended up transferring to West Chester for his sophomore year and hopes to be the starting first baseman in the spring.
“Baseball takes up a lot of my college life, but I wasn’t happy enough to stay at LaSalle,” said Melone.
Favorite part about college: “The best part about college for me is being able to represent my college through baseball. I have made great friends with all my teammates. With practice 5 times a week, all the guys see each other a lot. Also, two of my teammates are my roommates. I’m so fortunate to be able to play the game I love everyday.”
What do you miss most about North Penn? “I probably miss the sports the most. I played both baseball and basketball, and I loved being able to have so many different friends from both sports. A lot of teachers were really supportive of athletes, too, so it was fun to be able to play for North Penn.”
Advice for High Schoolers: “Advice I would give to high schoolers is the classic ‘treat others how you want to be treated.’ Sometimes I got caught up with all the drama going on, but it’s important to establish friendships that you know will last. I have some great friends, but I always tried to avoid making any enemies. I see people from North Penn around West Chester all the time, and it’s great to be able to talk to them, instead of having those awkward encounters. High school goes by so fast, so you have to enjoy every minute!”
