Could you be the next American Idol?
December 22, 2015
For those that still actually watch the long-running TV show, American Idol, know that Fox is airing the 15th and final season in January.
It is interesting to see how American Idol has affected those who won. Some winners are still making it big, and others went back to their life as it was before their audition to join the competition.
The only winners that you probably hear about on a steady basis on social media sites or entertainment news shows are Season 1 winner, Kelly Clarkson, and Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood.
Clarkson, known as “the original,” is a three-time Grammy Award winner and has released seven successful albums. Her debut single after American Idol, “A Moment Like This” became the best-selling song of 2002.
Underwood is one of biggest country stars in the business. She has won seven Grammy awards and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. In 2013 she also starred in The Sound of Music Live! televised on NBC where she played Maria von Trapp. Underwood, the Season 4 winner, rose to fame quickly after American Idol due to her smash hit “Jesus, Take The Wheel,” followed by five chart-topping albums to date.
Season 9 winner, Lee DeWyze, is one of those who have been left in the dust. After winning Idol, his record label dropped him.
The winner from season 12, Candice Glover, whom you’ve probably never heard of, had the worst fate. Her debut single and album was the least successful of all winners and she has the honor of being the worst charting artist from American Idol.
From well-known winners like Jordin Sparks (Season 6) to winners who’s star quickly faded such as Ruben Studdard (Season 2), American Idol has gone from the highest peaks to the lowest valleys in creating successful musical artists.
The show has hit an all times ratings low the last couple of seasons and there has been a lack of commercial success for the winners. The producers are optimistic that with this being the last and final season of American Idol, many more people will tune in. They are hopeful that this will result in the winner potentially becoming just as successful as some of the big winners from the past.
Season 15 will mark the return of host Ryan Seacrest and the final season judges are Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. Some judges from prior seasons that are rumored to appear during this season are Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Steven Tyler, Ellen DeGeneres, Nicki Minaj, and Kara DioGuardi.
Set your DVRs or tune in to Fox for the premiere episode of American Idol’s last season on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 8-10 PM.
