Nobody can drag down One Direction

One Direction recently released their fifth album, Made in the A.M. This is the first album without ZaynMalik

One Direction is no longer the teeny-bopper “What Makes You Beautiful” band. Over the past 5 years the band has matured considerably, despite losing fifth band member, Zayn Malik, earlier this year.

One Direction has just released their fifth album called Made In the A.M. They don’t sound like the 2012 version that everyone still thinks. Although the album is still pop, the music sounds like it’s growing up with the band.

From sensitive break-up songs to rock-upbeat bangers, the album is full of diversity and has a bit of something that everyone could like.

Made In the A.M. sets the mood off with “Hey Angel” which opens the album up to a catchy, upbeat song, sounding like U2, which then transitions into “Drag Me Down” which was the first song released during the summer without fifth band-mate Zayn. “Perfect” comes next and is the ideal One Direction song that you would hear on the radio, which has the ‘supposed’ jab to Taylor Swift.

“Infinity” is the fourth track that starts off as a slower song but gets faster throughout. This song is filled with outstanding harmonies that are incredibly soothing.

Next up is “End of the Day” which is a soft-rock song that showcases all of the boys’ vocal abilities, especially member Louis Tomlinson who surprises us all with a high note towards the end that we definitely have not heard before on any of the other albums.

A six-pack of tissue boxes is necessary for the next track, “If I Could Fly.” It is a soft and sweet love song that can and will bring tears to everyone’s eyes. As a teenage girl, if you’re in your “feels” you definitely will have this song on repeat. This is absolutely an amazing song that they should be proud of.

You might still want to keep the tissues with you for the next one, “Long Way Down.” This is another slow, sad song, well more sad than anything. The band recently announced that they are taking a yearlong hiatus after this album. During an interview, the band said that this song is about the long way down from all their fame of the last five years as they try to get back to their normal lives. This is a heartbreaking song for all of their dedicated fans that have been with them since the burst on the scene.

Throw the tissues out your window for the eighth song on the album, “Never Enough.” There is truly no other way to describe this song other than a jam. It has a Jungle Book vibe that makes you want to grab your closest friends that love 1D and have a dance party to this song. This is one you wouldn’t want to miss.

“Olivia” is the ninth song and is quite a bop too. The song is inspired by Willy Wonka and is filled with trumpets and a good toe-tapping beat. “Olivia” is supposed to be a pun for “I love you.”

A personal favorite of mine is “What a Feeling.” It has such a nice, jazzy rhythm to it and has some Fleetwood Mac sounds to it. This is definitely a song that I want to jam to and swing back and forth to while snapping.

“Love You Goodbye” is another breakup ballad. It definitely might sting your heart a bit. It’s about breaking up with your gf/bf and spending that one last night with them before never seeing them again.

Following “Love You Goodbye” is “I Want to Write You a Song.” This is another love song that serves as the lullaby of the album. In the background is the sound of someone writing on a piece of paper, as if they are writing the lyrics while the song is sung. The slow and soft mood allows the boys to show off their sweet voices.

“History” has a happy melody that definitely will put you in a good mood, especially since it has some Toy Story vibes in it. The song is kind a “thanks” for the fans and how they have a lot of history together, including the recording of some fans cheering in the background of the song.

“Temporary Fix” is a straight up banger. It is such an upbeat, rock song that will make you want to scream it at the top of your lungs. If you listen to it, you definitely get the gist of what it is about, but it is absolutely such a fun song.

Another one of my personal favorites is “Walking in the Wind.” It has a very cute tone as they all show off how soothing their voices are. The song is highlighting and describing their best memories from one of their relationships. This song will make you want to frolic in a field, or I guess frolic in the wind.

Next up is “Wolves” and it has a funky sound to it. It is such a fun song and sounds old-fashioned. Band member, Liam, said that “Wolves” is about being out with your girl and having other guys (wolves) trying to steal her away. (Everybody still wants to “Steal [his] Girl”)

“A.M.” is the last song on the album and it may be one of the bests. It is a slow jam but definitely a jam. Everyone can relate to this one, as it will bring memories back to you about fun times you’ve had with your friends. It is about sitting around with your friends at the end of the night and having a great time. It basically describes how you feel while listening to this song and this whole album.

One Direction never ceases to amaze their fans, but hopefully people that usually don’t listen to them will find interest in this one. The mature-sounding Made In the A.M. shows their progression as a band and One Direction seems to be more proud of it than the fans.
