R and Julie live in two very opposite worlds. Julie (Teresa Palmer) struggles to survive in a small town surrounded by a huge wall to protect the remaining humans on earth; meanwhile R, (Nicholas Hoult) an unusual zombie who cannot remember his own name, questions meaning in his life and shuffles around an abandoned airport surrounded by normal zombies and zombies that have ‘given up hope’ that have now become bonies that are lacking of any emotion but hunger. Although R feels more human emotion than most zombies, he still needs to eat. And as R and his ‘best friend zombie’ M gather a group to venture into the city beyond the airport to find humans, Julie, her boyfriend Perry, and her best friend Nora, along with other young trained candidates, venture outside the comfort of the their small cities walls to find abandoned supplies to keep up with the growing needs of their seclusion.
While the group of human’s scavenger for medicine in an abandoned hospital, the group of zombies find them unawares and attack. Using his zombie instincts R kills Perry and it is revealed that the only way for a human that is attacked to not come back as a zombie, is for the zombie who eats them to also eat their brain and experience all their memories. As R decides to save Perry’s brain for later, he looks up and discovers that Julie has managed to stay alive. He commiserates for her struggle to survive and disguises her as a zombie and takes her back to the airport to save her from getting eaten.
Warm Bodies is loosely based off Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet; the two enemy families, the ‘gangs’ of friends, and the murder. Although you have to watch the movie to see who gets killed. But is it worth the entire 98 minute run time? If you’re an ultra fan of romantic comedies then go. Even though Warm Bodies is packaged as a Sci-Fi romantic comedy, there are some suspenseful fight scenes which brings the plot out its extreme sappiness. So if you can stomach the small amounts guts and gore, Warm Bodies is worth the trip. I give Warm Bodies 3 out of 5 Stars.

Funny, witty, scary, and romantic, this movie is the most enjoyable one I’ve seen so far in the lackluster year that has been 2013. Solid review Naomi.
