If you could not get enough of The Hunger Games trilogy, The Selection by Kiera Cass is the book for you.
The Selection is a cross between The Hunger Games, without the blood sport, and the TV show, “The Bachelor.” In a post World War III era, the United States is divided into seven castes similar to the 12 Districts of The Hunger Games. The story revolves around sixteen year old America Singer who is a Five and is old enough to enter the Selection. The Selection gives 35 girls the chance to live in the palace and compete for Prince Maxon’s heart. In true “Bachelor” style, the 35 girls slowly dwindle down to one as Prince Maxon chooses which girl he would like to become his wife.
While the Selection should be a girl’s dream opportunity, for America, it is her worst nightmare. It would mean leaving behind her secret but forbidden love, a boy named Aspen who is in a caste lower than her. However as she gets to know Maxon, she starts to question all of the things she once believed in.
Read the first book in this trilogy to uncover what happens when America decides to put in her ballot for the Selection. If you want to wait to see the series on TV, the CW network plans to turn this book into a drama series with a pilot aimed to premier in early 2013; Aimee Teegarden, who you may recognize as playing the daughter Julie Taylor in Friday Night Lights, is set to play America Singer.
