The Metropolitan tries to be a step above your average chain restaurant, but despite it’s attempts it falls short. Upon entering the Metropolitan, located in North Wales, it immediately draws you into the ambient feeling of the city. After an hour and a half of waiting the ambience sort of becomes tacky due to waiting for that extensive period of time. When we were finally seated, right next to the kitchen, which all night was noisy, full of shouting and bustling, and overall just a bad environment.
Our server was nice, polite, and prompt with a loaf of bread and butter. After giving us all time to ponder what we wanted to get I decided upon the Chipotle Rotisserie Chicken ($14) with Yukon mashed potatoes and asparagus. The time between when we ordered and when our food arrived was perfect, not too long and not too short.
When she placed the food down on the table I was perplexed, I thought I didn’t get asparagus but it turns out it was just under the chicken, it looked as if a blind man threw all the food on the plate, the presentation was not done well at all. Cutting into the chicken proved to be a bigger challenge than I thought, the chicken was dry and had little flavor and the skin fell off similar to chicken served at KFC. The asparagus, once I found it on my mess of a plate, seemed undercooked and tasteless. The only thing that was stellar about the meal were the potatoes they were rich, creamy, and delicious.
When half of our party had finished the other half was still eating and the waitress who came off as nice and polite rudely tried to push us out to clear up a table so other people could come in. At the end of the night after we left the restaurant looking back I did not enjoy my experience, the food was not worth the almost two hour wait and the restaurant on the whole wasn’t very appealing, appetizing, or good.
Two out of four stars.
