September 26th marked the debut of FOX’s new sci-fi series, Terra Nova. Terra Nova aired last Monday at 8pm and immediately sparked interest. With the use of time travel, dinosaurs, and a look into the future, the debut surely added something different than the usual prime time dramas.
Throughout the Sunday Football games, FOX incessantly promoted their new show. When the show aired on Monday night, anticipation built for what the show’s plot entailed. Viewers quickly found out that not only would this show include science fiction but it would also include a very dramatic story about a family’s effort to stay together.
Terra Nova also gave viewers a look into the possible future of the planet if pollution and population growth continues, as a new society 85 million years in the past is created when the earth nears the end of its existence.
To many, the viewers the plot of the new series may seem hackneyed. However, the show brings something that TV has not seen since Lost, it brings a sense of mystery and awe. Dinosaurs have not exactly been a common theme on primetime television.
Whether Terra Nova goes for twenty more seasons or two more episodes, it can take solace in the fact that it gave a strong effort to try to be different. While the plot may not be strong, every Monday millions will tune in to see what Terra Nova will do next.
